Some companies have a policy which states that the mail software has to add a disclaimer to every (outbound) email message - no matter how small the message is. This creates several problems:
Now, I don't mind if the companies added a *single* line to the *header* of all emails with the *address* of some *webpage* containing all this info, for example:
X-Disclaimer: read this carefully! http://www.domain/disclaimer.html
However, adding a disclaimer to the *body* of *every* message certainly lowers the signal/noise ratio and can therefore only be considered as informational *pollution*.
Such disclaimers certainly are a nuisance on public messages, ie on mailing lists and newsgroups.
Of course employees have a choice to simply do their public communication from home where they would have a choice of mailer and probably no such disclaimer at all. But you know how lazy people are....
However, this is not an issue of communication from work vs communication from home - it is an issue of the companies' legal departments! They are responsible for creating digital pollution by enforcing the munging of message bodies. Wake up, folks, - and get a clue!
