some notes on what i have to adapt with a new computer / new system.

= hardware =
i am switching from an IBM T30 (sponsored by Philip Poten - lieben dank!)
to an IBM T42 (sponsored by Christoph Koydl - thanks!).

ubuntu 8.4

= startup =
* todo: sendmail haengt, console wird angezeigt.
* todo: ddclient - what's that?
* todo: change startup sound
* todo: change startup picture
* todo: switch DE to EN

= keyboard =
[General]
[x] key presses repeat when key is held down
    Delay: a little shorter than default
    Speed: a little faster  than default
a numeric value would help.

[Layouts]
[generic 105-key (Intl) PC]
Selected layouts:
  Germany
  USA, International (AltGr dead keys)
  United Kingdom, Default

TEST: swap ESC and CapsLock.

Keyboard Layout Options:
Ctrl key position:
(o) make CapsLock an additional Ctrl.

= Panel =
Applets:
- DeskBar (TEST)
- Keyboard Indicator
- Lock Screen
- Network Monitor

- Brightness Applet
  not needed. can change the brightness
  with Fn+Pos1 and Fn+Ende

getting rid of F1 calling help all the time.
the f1 key is diretcl

alle menuekuerzelbuchstaben deaktivieren
