food+drinks were provided - nice stuff.

webcam:
a webcam would have been nice - for those who
were only able to take part remotely via chat.
an audio stream could have been fun, too. ;-)

you can search for plazes, users, and groups.
here i finally find an answer to the questions
"how many plazes/users/groups are there?" :-)

when i search for "berlin" i find this:

   users: 73
  groups: 27

only 73 users in berlin?  :-/

sarching for only an 'e' gives me this:

  groups: 210

okay... but "how many plazes/users/groups are there?" ;-)

= Groups =

How many groups are there?  Where is a complete overview?
the address of the Fon community is
http://plazes.com/groups/272 - but
are there really (at least) 272 groups?
maybe some groups have already been deleted?

group page:
the info to a group consists of an
Overview, Members, Plazes, and Comments.

the "Overview" is basically a tag cloud.

"Members" lists the moderators first, then
the rest of the members in alphabetical order,
30 at a time.

Plazes:
first there is a filter to be applied to all plazes,
then it shows the "most recent plazes".
(what exactly is a "most recent plaze"?
 most recently added?  visited?)
There is no total number of all plazes given.

Plazes can have a category with a default icon -
or you can add a picture of it.

Acitivities:
you can join the group, invite others
(doesn't this require a membership?),
and add a plaze to it.


= Tools =

Plazer:
is available for Mac + Win -
but not for any other platform.
sorry, linux users!

PlazeSMS:
given the bad intput tool for the text (cellphone) and
at 19cents per message, this is a pretty costly method.
however, if the mobile companies would add the current
geo position an an extra for *free* - then you could
certainly build some very interesting tools with it.

how can you find out about this?

Displazed Plazes:
there are quite a few "displaZed plaZes"...
what happend to them?

Pollution:
some plaCes appear as multiple plaZes.
call it "plaze polluzion".  ;-)

i entered the address of a plaCe -
but google maps is off by a mile.
i do not want to spread this activity
bevore i have corrected this -
but *how* can you correct it?

you can change the name of the plaZe,
the description of your activity and
the start time  as well as its scope
("everyone" or "friends only").

but i do not see a way to correct
the link to google maps in any way.
also, you cannot enter a duration
for the activity - why is that?

Mobile Interface:
someone worked on a minimal interface
to add activities..  where is it?
it existed on nokia phone 60xx -
but they did not have any wifi.
it was dropped.

when you are at work then $BOSS gets info -
but not you $FRIENDS.  however, when you
