Mail Manager Wishlist
MailManager is a program that can split up a text file into articles,
display them in a menu,
and provides commands for selection as well as commands that react on the set
of selected articles.
Separation rules
The following things are used as seperators between articles:
- A string (such as a sequence of four control-a characters)
- A complete line (with a selectable format
- A block of lines containing a set of lines (with selectable format)
Header := All lines after a separator up to the next empty line (not included).
Body := All lines after the empty line following the header up to the next header.
Menu
Article Sorting
Minimum set of header lines that are used as a sort criteria:
- From
- To
- Subject
- Date
- Newsgroups
Menu layout
The Menu shows a sorted list of all articles as found by the separation rules.
Default sort method is lexicographic sorting.
Sorting can also be done by selected substring, e.g. an email address,
or by a transformation thereof, e.g. a date&time stamp.
Several fields can be displayed on each line within the menu.
Length and contents of each field can be specified by customization rules:
[on/off] ""
Example:
[x] From ".*"
[ ] To ".*"
[x] Subject ".*"
[ ] Date "19[0-9][0-9]"
[ ] Newsgroups 40 ".*"
Fields are concatenated by a given string:
Number From To Subject Date Newsgroups
Suggestions/Ideas:
