Flaming - Internet Xtreme Sports - NancyBoys!
"Put on your asbestos suits and start the FLAMING!"
Quote of the Day
"I am a big fat idiot. I should have never linked to this site.
It was a mistake to spend all night on google searches.
I should have gone to bed. I should have put down the bourbon.
My deepest apologies. --Tanya Hsu."
Flaming is an artform!
"When you do it - do it right - or don't."
This motto should be applied to anything, really,
but if you feel like flaming somebody on Usenet
then please do it right. Take some time.
Please do not be boring. Thankyou.
The History of the NancyBoys
Robin Socha and Sven Guckes had been collecting helpful hints and
presenting them as webpages for readers of comp.mail.pine for quite some time,
posting the addresses and the hints over and over again to comp.mail.pine.
But they saw that there were many people not following those hints,
but asking FAQs all the time. The "nice way" obviously did not work.
So they decided that it was about time to flame some of them,
and to point out that questions were FAQs.
In March 1999 Sven set up a mailing list.
Actually, this was just a pseudo address that distributed the mails to
Robin, Sven, Ken, and Adam.
After seeing some flames by Kate they asked her to join. (June 1999)
Sven knew that Felix also enjoyed flaming lusers a lot,
so Felix joined in July 1999.
In July 1999 this list moved onto kens.com and
the name was decided upon as "nancyboys".
So the group known as the "NancyBoys" was born!
This name refers to
Nancy McGough
who is known for helping people on the Net,
especially on the newsgroup comp.mail.pine,
- although very very nicely. ;-)
The NancyBoys do what Nancy would never do - flame the lusers.

Flame Guide
Whatever you do - avoid smileys and abbreviations like "SCNR"
("sorry, could not resist").
(the temptation to make such a silly remark).
(This is just for "Warmduscher". This is a Kraut thing -
you are not supposed to understand this.)
Remember: Make sure you will hit don't miss!
When flaming then do not leave any remnants behind!
Make it hurt!
Remember, old articles never die

Remember, old articles never die. They end up at dejanews or similar where
they sit for all eternity. How much longer until Time/Life comes out with
a "Usenet articles of the 80s/90s DVD-ROM"? :)
"Relive the classic flame wars"
"Laugh at the newgroup/rmgroup wars"
"Marvel at classic Usenet bondoogles such as Dick Depew and ARMM"
"See why they call fall '94, 'the year that September never ended.'"
"Cower when you realize how many of your own stupid earlier posts are
included for all the world to see."
"Discover the great Usenet 'burp'"
"And see how 6 ASCII characters (.cabal) brought much of Usenet to
a halt."
"All this for only $199.95. Minimum system requirements: Power A.M.Pentrix
IV Alpha @ 3.5GHz, 1 TeraByte RAM, 800 GB disk space, 12 Layer/64 speed
DVD-ROM and Windows NT 5.0(*) or Linux (Kernel 6.6.6 or later)
(*) May not be available by press time.

Quotes
Kate McMillan in email [991130]:
> Robin - did you make her do it?
Robin doesn't make me do anything.
Robin is *my* servant.
Robin Socha on comp.mail.pine [990730]:
Lusers are dead meat. People like Sven, Ken,
Felix et al put the *kill* in killfile.
"Never explain. Never apologise."
