Mail-Copies-To - requesting CCs by email

As a user of Usenet you probably have often wondered whether it is possible to request an email copy of the followups to one of your articles. Well, this is possible in a limited, but easy way:

Just add a "Mail-Copies-To:" (MCT) line to the header of your posts.

Example:

Mail-Copies-To: me@home The effect is that the newsreaders will recognize this line and will prompt the person that followup up to your post about sending you an email copy.

Such an email copy is known as "CC" which stands for "carbon copy" or, in this special case, "courtesy copy".

Notes:

The MCT line is only in *your* post and thus works only for *direct* followups to your article. This does not propagate to the following followups (and that's good, too).

Not every newsreader makes use of that line yet. Unfortunately. But adding this simple to your posts is probably easier than having to add a note to all your posts. (If not then you should use a better newsreader. ;-)

This automation is also easier for the folks that read your post. And it avoids an extra note within the body of your post.
